Fans of The Witcher will be glad to know that Andrzej Sapkowski has finished work on a new novel in the series. In an exclusive interview with Chimères, a French magazine, Sapkowski revealed that he spent two years on a book detailing a side adventure featuring the White Wolf.
The writer previously discussed the book during 2023’s Comic Con in Vienna, noting that it would hit store shelves by the end of 2024 and be fully translated by 2025.
Given the immense popularity of the Witcher series, it’s easy to see why fans are hyped to check out another canon adventure featuring Geralt of Rivia. It’s the first novel since 2013’s Season of Storms, a collection of side stories that serves as a prequel to the main adventure. That makes it 11 long years since the last book.
Sapkowski has confirmed that this story won’t be a sequel or continuation, placing it sometime before the events of Blood of Elves.
Until more information comes out surrounding this novel, fans can only speculate about the details of this adventure. One popular theory suggests that this novel will serve as a continuation of the upcoming animated movie, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, and involve Dandelion and Essi Daven, a rival bard.
The timeline of the book from inception to release is interesting, and fans can’t help but draw comparisons to another popular dark fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire.
While Sapkowski managed to write an entire adventure in two years, the infamously long wait for George R.R. Martin’s Winds of Winter (clocking in at 13 years as of this point) seems all the more frustrating now.
I’m a passionate gamer with a soft spot for RPGs who has been writing about all things gaming for seven years and counting. The Witcher is one of my favorite franchises that I can’t get enough of, with Geralt’s adventures embedded in my brain ever since the first Witcher game blew my mind!
