I’ve been wanting to write something about Witcher lore for a while. While the Witcher franchise doesn’t leave as much room for theories and interpretations as a series like Dark Souls, there are some interesting aspects to explore. In this post, I’m going to discuss Gaunter O’Dimm [Read more…] about Witcher Lore – Gaunter O’Dimm
Here’s a quick guide to obtaining your very own Witcher Viper set that was added in the Hearts of Stone expansion pack. This set includes both armor and two swords.
This medium armor set is themed around poison, so it has high poison resistance and the swords have a chance to poison on attack. The armor looks like a recolored version of the gear you start the game with.
How to get the Viper Armor
The four Diagrams for the Viper armor can only be obtained during the beginning of the Heist mission, when you are inside Vivaldi’s auction house. They are sold by Countess Mignole.
How to get the Viper Venomous Steel Sword
The Steel Sword diagram can be found inside Borsodi’s vault during the Heist mission, in the final room.
How to get the Viper Venomous Silver Sword
The Silver sword can only be found if you choose the “Help Olgierd” option during the ending of the expansion. You can then find the sword directly (no diagram required) inside the shadowy realm that Gaunter O’Dimm puts you in. From the starting area, go straight down, then across the bridge, and then go left down the path.
After following the path, you should see some stairs leading up to an area with a red glow around it; jump up the broken stairs and you will find the sword inside a rock.
With the release of Witcher 3’s expansion “Hearts of Stone” mere weeks away (October 13th) it’s a good time to showcase some fresh information.
As a quick reminder, the plot of HoS will see Geralt facing off against the immortal bandit leader Olgierd von Everec, at the behest of the “man of glass” -a character you actually met earlier, at the beginning of the game in White Orchard.
In terms of new content, HoS will add new areas to the Velen map. Check out this comparison of the current map of northeastern Velen, to the one shown in HoS gameplay:
Check out a couple new screenshots here. Also for all you crazy Gwent lovers, here are a couple new cards, featuring everyone’s favorite evil elf-guy, Eredin:
HoS is still up for a 15% sale on Gog.com (CDPR’s game distribution website/service), which is a better choice than buying it on Steam if you want to support CDPR directly.
For today’s post, I’ve compiled a list of the most popular Witcher 3 mods at the moment, to add on to my previous list:
This is currently the most comprehensive Witcher HUD mod available. It has lots of useful features that not only enhance the HUD but also other elements gameplay. Here is a list of the most notable features:
- 3D markers for tracked quests – makes it easier to follow quests without having to open the map constantly
- Real-Time Meditation – very cool feature since you can see the world around you change as you meditate
- Turn Entire HUD off/on (Great for taking screenshots)
- Using Potions/Bombs/Oils through radial Sign menu for easier access in combat
Check out the official mod page for a list of all the features. If you’re going to use this mod, make sure to follow the installation instructions very carefully and watch the installation video, as this mod requires additional files to be changed aside from installing the main mod file.
You may have noticed how Geralt is always called a “mutant”, “ugly”, “freak” and so on throughout the game, yet his handsome appearance doesn’t really reinforce this. This mod adds subtle changes to the appearance of Geralt and other witchers, to make them look closer to how they are portrayed in the books. For example, it makes their skin paler, their cat-like eyes more pronounced, and making Geralt’s beard more white. This is a great mod to add to the game’s immersion.
This mod adds names to the icons of bombs, oils, potions, and decoctions, to make it easy to find the right one. This is a very simple and effective improvement to the game’s UI.
This mod makes drastic changes to the game’s lighting, making it more realistic and less saturated, increasing view distance, and removing the strong orange and blue hues. This mod certainly isn’t for everyone, but I enjoyed it more than the normal lighting of the game in most situations. Give it a try and see if you like it.
This mod greatly boosts the stats of Relic (unique, brown-colored) weapons to make them a viable alternative to the Witcher Gear swords. Although the idea is good, I think this mod goes a little too far in boosting stats, making Relic weapons too powerful.
Check out the comparison below for the Moonblade relic sword, before and after the mod; I think the stats need to be toned down, as in this case a level 32 relic is much better than my level 34 mastercrafted witcher sword. Nonetheless, a cool mod if you want to put the excitement back into finding new shiny weapons!
That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more mods in the near future!
CDPR has just released the first official video and screenshots for Witcher 3 expansion, ‘Hearts of Stone’, set to be released on October 13th. You can get it for 15% off on GOG.com right now.
The expansion will feature about 10 hours of completely new content. All we know about the story so far is this little summary: Geralt is hired by the Merchant of Mirrors, who gives him the task of killing Olgierd von Everec — a ruthless bandit captain enchanted with the power of immortality.
Judging from the screenshots, this expansion will include Shani, a prominent character from the first Witcher game.
The Hearts of Stone Expansion, slated for an October 13 2015 release, will include completely new map locations, items, characters, monsters….and new gwent cards for you gwent lovers! Source (in Polish). The expansion quests are all going to be level 30+ and can be played either during or after the main story.
CDPR will also be releasing a patch fairly soon (probably sometime this week) to make some changes to the game’s romances. I’m guessing this patch will address the weakness of the Triss romance.
A CDPR spokesperson said this about the patch: “We’ll be adding some additional dialogue for Triss and Yennefer in the upcoming patch due to the fan feedback. We’ve read many opinions on our forums where gamers weren’t satisfied with the way their romance choices were fleshed out, so we wanted to change that by adding some extra conversational options.” Source
Lastly, CDPR will also be releasing an update for the MODkit relatively soon.
