Doug Cockle Walks Back His Comments About Geralt Appearing in Witcher 4

Doug Cockle, the iconic voice behind Geralt of Rivia, stirred up excitement among fans with comments hinting at Geralt’s appearance as a side character in Witcher 4.

However, in a recent interview with Geektown at MCM Comic Con Birmingham, Cockle revealed he “got slapped” by CD Projekt for those remarks, and he’s now walking back his claims.

The Original Comments That Sparked Controversy

Back in August, during a chat on Fall Damage, Cockle said that Geralt will appear in Witcher 4, but not as the main character.

What we know is that Geralt will be part of the game, we just don’t know how much, and the game won’t focus on him. So it’s not about him this time.

According to Cockle, CD Projekt reached out to him after the remarks, essentially telling him to be quiet. In Cockle’s words:

I did go online and I said something about this, and then I got slapped by CD Projekt, because—I don’t know how true it is. I went off a rumor, I thought I’d seen somebody from CD Projekt say that Geralt will be in Witcher 4 but he won’t be the main character. I don’t actually know if that’s true now because they came back and they went, ‘We haven’t put anything out there, don’t say anything!’

Cockle admitted his initial comments were based on a rumor, possibly from an outdated statement made years ago by a former CD Projekt employee.

What Do We Actually Know About The Witcher 4?

Codenamed Polaris, the next installment in The Witcher saga will begin a new Witcher trilogy. Officially announced in 2022, the game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, signaling a fresh start for CD Projekt. Polaris recently entered full production in November 2024.

Details are scarce, although some fans speculate that Ciri may be the new protagonist. Despite fan theories, Cockle insists he has no insider knowledge about The Witcher 4. “The truth is, it’s a complete mystery to me,” he said. “Even if I did know, I’d have to lie to you because of an NDA.”
