The Witcher 3’s REDkit modding tools have opened up new possibilities for modders, with one ambitious project bringing full seasonal changes to the game’s world.
Modder ianjoseph1986’s “Weathers and Seasons for the Continent” introduces distinct seasonal variations across each zone, inspired by the popular “Seasons of Skyrim” mod. The mod retextures nearly every plant and tree for each season, transforming the game’s various biomes and weather systems.
Currently, players must manually switch between seasonal files (Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter), but the mod’s creator aims to add dynamic season changes in the near future. The mod also relies on existing mods for certain areas (like the Icewine mod for winter in Toussaint).
Despite these limitations, this is still a very cool addition to Witcher 3. I can’t wait to experience Velen in autumn or winter! This awesome mod joins other notable recent creations, like the full-fledged Witcher 3 reputation system and the customer player character mod.
As modders continue to explore REDkit’s potential, fans can expect more innovative additions to The Witcher 3’s already rich world. Personally, I’m looking forward to a mod that expands on the many unfinished areas of Skellige, which should make that area feel much more interesting and complete.
