Exciting news for Witcher fans! The Witcher 4—also known as Project Polaris—has officially moved into “full-scale” production. Around 400 developers, or two-thirds of CDPR’s team, are now focused on the game.
The news was announced by Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt, during the company’s recent earnings conference:
“Several weeks ago, the Polaris team wrapped up preproduction and moved on to full-scale production—the most intensive phase of development. We are very pleased with our progress.”
The news was confirmed by CDPR’s Game Director for the Witcher games:
This marks a significant step forward for the development of the game. With this news, we can estimate that Witcher 4 will be released in late 2025 at the earliest, although 2026 sounds more likely.
Witcher 4: What We Know
While CD Projekt hasn’t shared much about The Witcher 4’s storyline, we do know the game will introduce a new protagonist. It’s also confirmed that Geralt will appear as a supporting character, with veteran voice actor Doug Cockle reprising his role.
One likely possibility is that Ciri will be the new protagonist, but that’s just a guess. We expect more details about the game’s story and setting to come out in 2025.
