The release of the REDkit has opened the floodgates for the modding community to tweak The Witcher 3 using official tools. However, it’s also allowing players to discover deleted content that never made it to the game’s release.
One such piece of content is a deleted Witcher 3 ending which explains what happens to the Lodge of Sorceresses, among other things. Discovered by modder Glassfish777, the content was put together into a video covered by popular Witcher youtube xLetalis.
In the final version of the game, players are teleported away from Yennefer after beating Eredin before they chase down Ciri and Avallac’h.
But in this original deleted draft, Geralt is injured and wakes up in a Niilfgaardian camp, where he meets Yennefer. The topic of Ciri being missing once again comes up, but players must explore the camp and deal with certain loose ends before embarking on one last search.
Players interact with Niilfgaardian soldiers, attend Crach’s funeral, and talk about the aftermath of the final conflict with major characters.
Perhaps the most notable moment with major ramifications that was cut out involves Yennefer using the Lodge of Sorceresses to locate Ciri, promising them amnesty from Emhyr’s wrath. However, the raven-haired sorceress only used them to find Ciri and Avallac’h.
After this task is done, Yennefer betrays them and Emhyr personally orders their arrest, leading Philippa Eilhart, Fringilla Vigo, and Margarita Laux-Antille to their eventual executions. Thankfully, Triss escapes since Yennefer gave her a heads-up.
It’s a cruel moment that shows how desperate Yennefer is to find Ciri. However, one can argue that this act is too cold and not befitting Yennefer’s character, given the bonds she shares with the group.
This, coupled with the way this additional content hampers the pacing of the ending, is probably the reason why CD Projekt Red decided to cut this portion out and jump directly to the point where Yennefer teleports Geralt near the tower where Ciri plans to deal with the White Frost.
I’m a passionate gamer with a soft spot for RPGs who has been writing about all things gaming for seven years and counting. The Witcher is one of my favorite franchises that I can’t get enough of, with Geralt’s adventures embedded in my brain ever since the first Witcher game blew my mind!
