Every Witcher 3 Region Ranked, According to Reddit

The regions of The Witcher 3 are varied and brimming with life. From the dark, moody tones of Velen to the bright colors of Toussaint, you’re sure to find something you like.

But while each area has its strengths and weaknesses, most fans are bound to have their favorites. We followed this Reddit poll to rank the six regions in Witcher 3 according to popularity.

While arguments can be made as to why any of these can deserve #1, here they are ranked according to how many votes they received.

6. White Orchard

White Orchard serves as the perfect introduction to the game, blending the tranquility of rural life with the bleakness of war. Villagers hate witchers, the Nilfgaardian & Redanian forces hate each other, and monsters hate anything encroaching on their territory.

The beauty of the serene meadows, winding rivers, and quaint villages contrast perfectly with the danger lurking at every turn. One could argue that White Orchard could’ve ranked higher had it been larger and more complex, but that was never its purpose.

5. Velen

The Witcher is a dark fantasy world at the end of the day, and nowhere are these vibes more prevalent than Velen. Despite this war-torn area looking as bleak as they come, most fans agree that Velen is in line with the true spirit of Witcher 3. Its murky swamps, desolate villages, and ominous forests create a grim and oppressive environment that feels dangerous and unpredictable.

That’s why there’s a solid argument to be made for Velen being the best Witcher 3 zone. Still, the moody tone of Velen is too much for most players. If the other regions are ranked higher, it’s simply because they provide a reprieve from Velen’s depressing vibe.

4. Novigrad

After roaming the countryside for hours, fans will find the urban trappings of Novigrad to be a fresh change of pace. The rugged cobblestones and cramped streets of one of the biggest cities in video games are fun to explore, with King Radovid’s tyrannical hunt for mages and the like keeping the city in a constant state of unrest. There’s just so much going on in Novigrad, from markets to brothels, inns, temples, port area, and dozens of quests and fascinating characters.

3. Kaer Morhen

After exploring bustling areas full of complicated politics and morally gray individuals, it’s nice to get some rest at Geralt’s true home of Kaer Morhen. This imposing witcher fortress and the surrounding forests and mountains make for a much-needed break from the dark, moody, and busy vibe of the Continent.

It may not be the largest area in The Witcher 3, but the snow-capped peaks and lush greenery of Kaer Morhen coupled with a memorable ambient soundtrack make for a beautiful experience, especially when all your Witcher buddies are still present.

2. Skellige

Skellige stands out as a remarkable zone due to its breathtaking landscapes, deeply rooted Scandinavian-inspired culture, and rich lore. It features perhaps the most jaw-dropping vistas in the whole game.

The archipelago’s towering cliffs, snowy peaks, green forests, and stormy seas create an immersive, rugged atmosphere that perfectly complements its fierce warrior inhabitants. Skellige’s music, featuring evocative Nordic melodies, only further enhances the sense of adventure.

1. Toussaint

Touissant offers a vibrant, fairytale-like contrast to the darker tones of the main game. Inspired by the picturesque landscapes of southern France and Italy, Toussaint’s rolling vineyards, colorful architecture, and radiant sunlight make it one of the most visually stunning zones.

The region feels alive with its emphasis on wine, chivalry, and all sorts of intrigue, creating a whimsical yet rich atmosphere. The beauty and brightness (quite literally!) of Toussaint are why many players consider it their favorite zone, even though it contrasts sharply with the overarching atmosphere of the Witcher world.
