Common Quest Bugs

CDPR is working on fixing bugs with every new patch they release, but for now this may be useful. On this page I’ve posted some solutions to  common quest bugs where you may get stuck in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

In general, you can try to following solutions for different quest bugs:

  • Saving your game and loading that save (works for things like unresponsive NPCs)
  • Meditating
  • Leaving the NPC / Quest area and coming back (sometimes just mounting up and riding away for a minute or so can work)
  • If nothing else works, you may have to load an older save and re-do the part of the quest that is bugged

“Lord of Undvik” Finding Hjalmar Quest Solution

This is a common issue where if you’re doing the quest “Lord of Undvik” but also have the quest called “Master Armorers”,  the game will show you a quest objective circle around the ruined shack and tell you to Find Hjalmar, even though he’s not there.

If this happens to you, just ignore the quest marker, go outside the building, and follow the Giant’s footsteps to the village and you will find Hjalmar.

“Hard Times” Quest – Bugged Blacksmith NPC Solution

For the quest “Hard Times” in Skellige, if you get the bug where you can’t talk to anyone at the quest marker location in Kaer Trolde, just save your game, and load that save. You will then be able to talk to the blacksmith to finish the quest.

Place of Power Bug

Sometimes, Places of Power can bug out and not give you an ability point on the first attempt; they will remain usable but you won’t gain anything. If this happens, just use it again.

Ibrahim Savi’s First Map / Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear Bug

If you buy and and use Ibrahim Savi’s First Map (the one that starts the quest for “Scavenger Hunt: Bear School Gear”) outside of Skellige, you won’t get the quest.

I’m not entirely sure if you have to be directly in Skellige or just have Skellige unlocked (that is, have the quest “Destination: Skellige” completed) but it’s safer to just buy it and use it in Skellige.
