Vendor Locations that sell Maps for Witcher Gear (Bear, Cat, Griffin, Wolf)

As you’ve probably heard by now, the crafted Witcher school gear (Bear, Cat, Griffin, and Wolf) is the best armor in Witcher 3 once you upgrade it to the highest level (which is called grandmaster for most sets).

To find the diagrams for these sets, you can either stumble on them randomly (which is difficult), or buy maps from specific merchants that will reveal the location of the diagrams for each gear set or its upgraded version.

Below you can find the locations of these merchants, to make it easy for you to obtain your own Bear (Ursine), Cat (Feline), Wolf, and Griffin sets. Keep in mind that in order to craft each upgrade level, you need the previous tier set, so you’ll have to craft all the way up from normal to mastercrafted or grandmaster.

Also, there are no maps for the grandmaster gear diagrams and you’ll have to follow the scavenger hunt quests from Grandmaster armorer Lazare Lafargue in southern Beauclair to unlock grandmaster gear.

Similarly, there are no maps for the Manticore, Viper, and the newly added Forgotten Wolven gear sets.

  1. I go to the armorer in Oxenfurt, yet I don’t see the first Bear diagrams available for purchase. I just passed The King is Dead-Long Live The King. Do I need to go further in the main story before it’s finally availabe for purchase?

    • The merchants don’t sell the diagrams directly. They sell diagram maps – when you buy these maps and use from your inventory (under quest items), they will give you a quest with locations of the witcher set. So for the bear set you need to buy Ibrahim Savi’s First Map from the Oxenfurt blacksmith and then read it from your inventory.

        • Hmm, that’s odd. I just went back and double checked, it’s there for me.

Could be several things. It’s possible that you need to scroll down in the vendor window, sometimes the maps are put all the way at the bottom. Another possibility is that you already used it but you weren’t in Skellige so it bugged out and you never got the quest.

Worst case scenario, you can go to An Skellig and find the first pieces of armor without the map.

          • No same for me, it’s been driving me nuts. I’ve found all the other maps but this basic set for ursine 1. I’m level 21, have enhanced sets of griffin and cat, about to start wolf and even though I’ve found almost all the ursine gear on my own through grinding and questing, I can’t start this stupid gear cause I can’t find this map lol. The guy just doesn’t have it, never did and it’s bugging me cause I’m the kinda guy that likes to have all the gear sets. If anyone has answers….but if worse comes to worse will try your tip.

          • Depends what version of the game your running. It got changed in an update. Don’t know which one. The armorer in the castle in Skellige (the main one) sells Ursine one, and the Oxenfurt armorer doesn’t sell any diagrams anymore.

  3. I believe some of the maps that the armorers have is randomized. In that you have to come back later to get the correct set of maps you want. But overall this guide is correct.

  4. This is killing me. I’m lvl 24 and just trying to go from forgotten wolven armour to enhanced wolven armour but every blacksmith / armourer I try they keep telling me I have to ‘build’ the first level of armour (which I’m already wearing). Is there a way I can either just by the higher grade armour sets or download updates? I’m playing on ps4 pro and bought the entire game with the expansion packs already in. There no updates for me to download I’ve already tried.
